HKBTS and the President’s Council

President Cao Wai-tung The "Dean's Council" ("Council") of Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary ("Baptist Theological Seminary") was established in the 1980s. Later, the development of the Senate Group slowed down, and the opportunities for members to meet and communicate with each other gradually decreased. It wasn't until 2009 that I reunited the members of the Senate and held regular gatherings every year, and the situation began to improve. After ten years, I am pleased to see that the relationship between members has become closer and closer, and they are increasingly able to play a consultative role. As the relationship between everyone is getting closer and closer, the discussion atmosphere at the gathering every year is quite lively and exciting. Members are enthusiastically engaged and teach each other everything they know and experience without hesitation. ...

Remain True to Our Original Aspiration and Keep Our Mission Firmly in Mind

Li Jiangyong, Master of Divinity Li Jiangyong and Dean Cao Weitong never forget their original intentions. They remember that when they first arrived at "Baptism in God", the teacher soon arranged for mainland students to introduce themselves. At that time, I introduced my purpose as follows: My purpose in coming to "Baptism" is to become a good preacher; to provide solid messages on the podium and to shepherd believers well. In the past two and a half years, my goal has been very clear; in line with the belief of "never forget the original intention and keep the mission in mind", I have continued to study hard and achieve comprehensive development in five aspects: spiritual, moral, intellectual, physical, and social. ...

How Do I Learn to “Do Theology”?

Wang Jiahao, Master of Christian Studies, and other students looked back on more than three years of study and life. The theological equipment not only enabled me to gain knowledge, but also made me more effective in serving the church. The teachings in the seminary made me realize that “thinking about God seriously, preaching God seriously, and witnessing God seriously” are our responsibilities as created beings and are the true purpose of our creation. For the Christian community, theology is important because it is about how we know God and how we know others around us. ...

Faith-Seeking-Understanding

Deng Xuejun, Master of Divinity, is looking for answers to his faith. I still remember that when I was applying for the interview at "Baptism", the dean asked me why I wanted to enter the seminary and what my expectations were for studying in the seminary. Of course, the primary reason for enrolling was God’s calling on me. As for my expectations for learning, I remember having several questions in my mind at that time, hoping that studying theology would give me the answers. I vaguely remember two of the questions: "What is church? What should church be like?" and "What is fellowship? What should fellowship be like?" These questions were all triggered by my ministry and faith experience. Being young and having no theological training at the time, I thought that seminary must be the place to seek answers to these questions and that I would be able to find the answers here. ...

My Path of Theological Training

In order to respond to God’s call, my wife Yongmei and I started studying theology courses at Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary in August 2016. Time flies by, and now I am on the road to preaching. Looking back at the past three years, what traces has the gracious God left in it? If I were to describe these three years, I would say: the theological path is strange and dangerous; at the same time, the theological path is endearing and enriching. Without God's protection and care, I dare say that I would not have been able to embark on this theological path. ...
