Cherished Moments: The Morning Chapel and Personalized Pastoral Care

In recent years, Pastor Lam Kwok-bin of Hong Kong Baptist Theological Seminary has devoted himself to learning to become a community of disciples. We first learn to worship God together, and the morning meeting is a collective worship for our group. The college has always required all full-time students to attend the morning assembly. However, when I started serving in the college eight years ago, I saw that some students were not necessarily able to attend the morning assembly due to various reasons. Starting from the new academic year of 2009, the college has begun to implement the rules for attending morning assemblies. Gradually, the scene of the morning meeting has changed. Teachers, students and co-workers are looking forward to the morning meeting and are very involved in it. We sang hymns and praised God together in the college auditorium, prayed together, and pastored each other with God’s words (the teacher took turns preaching, and the graduating class also had a “graduation sermon”). The atmosphere and participation in morning meetings today are very different from those eight years ago. Especially the Christmas service held in the morning meeting every December. In addition to the participation of all teachers, students and co-workers, there are also many alumni who have come back to gather together. The seemingly shocking scene is always unforgettable. ...

Radical Sources of Change: The Conviction and Practice of Our Disciple Community

Deng Shaoguang’s Christian Thought (Theology and Culture) teaches that things are changing, the only question is how they change. "Baptism" has also experienced various changes in the past five years, and people gradually feel that there is always a different atmosphere in Jesus Christ. The changes in "Baptism" over the past few days are not limited to some external visible manifestations, but also go deep into the inner life of this group. It is my experience as an insider that the appearance and the inside are consistent. However, how is this possible? ...

Wrestling with Oneself

Zheng Xiujun, Master of Divinity Four years ago, I dragged my small suitcase and embarked on the road to New Year’s Day before school started. I still remember that moment when I felt light-hearted and just thought: "Wherever You lead me!" At that time, I didn't understand God's call, I just knew to entrust myself to His hands. I never expected that today, four years later, God did not want me to leave my hometown, my tribe, and my family to go somewhere special, but would lead me to return to Macau in a down-to-earth manner and learn to shepherd His church in this small town. ...

Changed Forever

Bachelor of Theology Zeng Huihong started writing at 10 a.m. on August 25, 2015, which happened to be the time when the seminary held its opening ceremony. This year I am no longer a student, and my status as a student has come to an end. Looking back on the past four years of studying theology, I realize that it was a journey of “knowing God, knowing my faith, and knowing myself.” It was also a journey that made me never the same again. ...

The End Becomes the Beginning

Gan Huiwen, first year Master of Divinity, two endings. I was born in a poor family, and my parents worked hard outside all day long. As the eldest daughter, I had to take care of my three younger siblings as well as my frail grandmother. I silently accepted this "boss" job. Since I was a child, I have felt that the burden of life is heavy and the future is bleak. When I was in high school, I made a decision to believe in the Lord at a gospel camp and began to gradually grow in the church. I got rid of the depression of my youth and received the abundant life given by God. Looking back on those years, I am really grateful to the teachers in middle school and the mentors in the church for their care and help. ...

God’s Unique Program of Study

Lu Yunhua, first year Master of Divinity. It turns out that I did not come from a Christian family, but I am very grateful that I believed in the Lord when I was a child. At that time, my aunt took the five-year-old me to attend children’s worship services in the church and also attended children’s Sunday school. There were only three children in the Sunday school at that time, but there were two tutors, and they taught with great care. It was then that I believed in the Lord. When he grew up, he went to Canada to study abroad and majored in mechanical engineering. In my first year of college, I was fortunate enough to attend the Winter Conference in Western Canada. When the speaker issued a call to us for vocational service, I raised my hand in response and walked to the stage to make my decision. Later, I participated in campus fellowship work and also served as a volunteer in some Christian organizations. My friends all laughed at me for serving full-time and studying part-time. Although I was busy serving, I felt the joy of serving the Lord. ...

A New Model Designed for Christian Life Coaching

Chen Zhanming, Associate Professor of Practical Theology (Life Coaching, Psychology and Recreation and Sports Ministry) Life coaching is a fairly new term. It is a new technique that is popular in modern management, training, counseling, education and other fields, and the Christian world We also began to promote the education of Christian life coaches. Is it appropriate for a skill developed in the business world to be used in Christian management, training, and counseling? I remember the first time I introduced a Christian life coach to a church fellowship. When I talked about the need for people to pursue their own dreams and goals, a brother asked: "Is it too individualistic to pursue personal dreams and preferences? God’s plan for our lives?”…
