Through carefully selected book chapters in different fields such as religion, sensory neuroscience, cultural development research, aesthetic theology, and modern/contemporary art stories, students are guided to reflect on the meaning and practice of spirituality from a broad perspective. In class, students listen to, appreciate, read, and analyze more than 30 classical music pieces from both ancient and modern times. The class demonstrates different ways to approach music and how to extract elements from music that can help nourish spiritual life, so that everyone can find a way of listening to music that suits them.
Contents: 1. Rethinking the meaning of spiritual practice by learning from the methodology of religious studies 2. How neuroscience can help people reflect on their own sensory awareness 3. The practice of aesthetic theology in life experience 4. The limitations of cultural development in a commercial society 5. Inspirations from modern/contemporary art history stories on spiritual practice |
