This is an introductory course in spiritual reading (lectio divina), suitable for believers who desire but rarely experience the presence of God when reading the Bible. Through theoretical explanations, practice, and reflection, course participants are expected to master the theological foundations, principles, required attitudes, and key points of each link in prayer-reading the Bible. There is a silent prayer practice in each class session. Participants are required to arrange for classes to take place in an environment free from harassment, or to take classes in real time in the classroom of the Bute Street Christian Building of our hospital. Contents: 1. Wherever spiritual reading goes 2. “less is more”: the brilliance of the Bible 3. God and man read together: Lingyou’s view on Bible reading 4. Quietness: Preparation for the Word 5. lectio: The difficulty of listening to the Holy Word. 6. meditatio: meditate on the difficulties and principles of the Holy Word 7. oratio: Responding to the difficulties and reasons of the Holy Word 8. contemplatio: the ordinary and extraordinary of contemplation |
